Battery noise help

I have been wiring a stereo for the past couple of days and have had 48v disconnected and in tow. When I connected the batteries to test the radio everything works fine but I noticed a bubbling noise coming from the batteries. Do you think that is just because it was disconnected for a while and now there is 48v's running through them? Any info would be helpful.
