Cable upgrade

Hey guys – I have a quick question. I am currently in the process of upgrading my stock cables to 2 gauge. I have wired everything with the exception of the negative coming off of the battery to the controller. The hole that this cable goes through is too small to put the new wire through and there are two other wires attached to the cable going into the controller.

Can I get away with leaving the stock negative cable on?
