98 Carryall VI , FE 350 Generator Circuit .. Please Help!!!

Hello All,

I have A 98 Carry all with the Fe350.. Cart runs great...
The trouble I am having is I can't seem to get it to charge my battery...

Today I put a multi meter on it to check it..
I put the red probe on pos battery post and black probe on neg with the engine running I got 12.4 V..

Now If I ground the blk probe on the meter and put the red probe on the thick white wire on the starter/generator and rev the engine the volts climb..
why am I not getting that voltage at the battery when I rev it...
