How tight for battery cable nuts?

I have been away for a bit, due to some health issues.

It was 77 degrees here is St. louis today and I got out to work on my cart.

Three of my cable were really nasty corrosion big time- I went and got some battery cleaner from Autozone. while there, I ran into an older man- he was having his starter tested- Late seventies to early eighties.
I was looking for the cleaner and he asked were my cables corroded. I told him yes. That three of the 16 were corroded- He got this big smile and asked what I had and told him a 48 volt ( 8 6 volt batteries) on a golf cart. He then told me, he used to repair electric fork lifts, pallet jacks and the like-

The man told me to use a torque wrench and make sure all of the nuts are about 10 pounds. ( i did not ask if that was 10 foot pounds or 10 inch pounds) I have not heard that before- Something about if they are not tight enough junk gets in? I think that's what he meant- It could be great advice and I found gold walking around autozone or it could be bull?

Does this sound logical? the 3 terminals, that are nasty are the two that go to the controller and the one that goes to the winch?

oh its a 2005 bad boy buggy/ezgo 48 volt 4 wheel \drive batteries will need help this year

Scotty? Johnny? and anyone else? any thoughts

thank you

its great to be outside working on the cart, can not wait to get it back out in the country
