Well I have been gathering parts for a couple weeks now and reading this forum for every tidbit of info I could find and I finally got down to the fun part this this morning.
A few days ago I ordered a Lifan 13hp engine from Home Depot, thanks go out to several of you for the informative write-ups you have done but I seemed to gather (according to Sho305 and a couple more) that the Lifan would be my most dependable clone engine.
I removed the governor and low-oil sensor when it arrived Thursday and stripped the engine down to have it ready for this morning. I would say that so far the hardest thing I've found about this venture is tapping the crankshaft for a new bolt to hold the clutch, that took me several hours today, I have broke off too many taps in my lifetime and I had a fear today with the metal in the crankshaft being so hard. Luckily I made it through without breaking it!!!
Here are a few pics I got today, I hope the guys at Vegas Carts don't get upset with me copying their engine mount...:hiding:
I mounted the engine and fuel tank and fired it up with no exhaust right before dark.....Just had to ride one trip around the yard, all I can say is WOW!, that ain't no golf cart anymore!!
Now to get Star/Gen mounted and finish the body work and paint, more pics coming soon!
