I have a 2000 DS with the FE290 in it, the rev. limiter has been bypassed since I bought it 4 years ago. I did speed the cart up using the zip tie method, but no where near over revving it ever. My question is what causes the ignition coil to fail. I had to replace it right at one year ago due to intermittent loss of spark once hot. The cart has ran fine ever since, then yesterday intermittent spark loss again. I don't mind having to change it, but wanted to see if there was a possibility of something else that I can't think of could be causing this failure. The engine is serviced every spring with all new filters, oil, and spark plug so not thinking it is the spark plug. The gap on the coil and the plug were all set to the service manual specs. of .028" gap on plug, and .012" air gap on the coil. If anyone has any advice please share, and thanks in advance.
