G1-G9 (Tommy) brought me down this engine and helped me install it in a G2. Thought I'd start a thread, since evidently this motor needs help and don't want to keep bothering Tom!
It ran great during CAW. Smoked a little, but Tom said it has to do with starving for air. Well, the cart was used at the campground for a few weeks and now seems to be smoking hard core. Just changed the oil and filter yesterday and put in what I think is the proper amount of oil - like 52 ounces. It's smoking something awful now...Which, if you mash the gas, all the smoke is behind you...not a big deal...But the people in the campground would say otherwise!
First off, I am new to this and other Briggs engines, but learning as I go here..
Question 1: This engine does not and will not start if you try to give it ANY gas. You have to turn the key and let it crank until it catches with zero fuel. Once it starts, typically, it will warm up, again with no gas, and after a couple of minutes you can then apply fuel and go on your way. However, this is getting to the point where it won't work any longer....I am having to crank on the starter several times before it will stay running. Do these engines have a choke?? I don't see one.
Question 2: What will it take to rebuild this, and what will it need? Rings? Bore it out?
Question 3: I see there is a sticky in this section for briggs parts. Is there a model number on the motor somewhere?Having a heck of a time trying to locate anything for this engine.
